Logicon

Hardcopy to XML: Pentecom completed a project to convert 38,000 pages from hardcopy format to XML using the NAVSEA ETM DTD. Pentecom developed customized routines to alleviate repetitive manual tasks. The documents were OCR'd and converted to XML markup using customized applications. Pentecom transformed XML documents using XSL stylesheets in Xalan. QC staff reviewed resulting HTML in a web browser and was able to provide many helpful comments on stylesheet needs for Logicon development staff. Many of the hardcopy originals for this project were in commercial formats and were poor quality or missing pages that made structuring in XML very difficult. This project was finished over a period of two months and was completed on time and within budget. Pentecom converted and delivered up to 6000 pages per week during the months of July and August in support of this project. XSL limitations and updates during the project resulted in several changes to tagging requirements which were accommodated within the project schedule.
